On Wednesday, several Meta apps experienced significant issues. The outage began around 1PM ET, causing problems for many Verge employees who were unable to load Facebook and Instagram or were only seeing older posts. Meta has since stated that the situation has improved.
Downdetector reported significant spikes in issues for Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram during the outage, indicating widespread impact. The Instagram Downdetector page received over 66,000 reports of platform issues, while Facebook's peak surpassed 83,000 reports.
Meta acknowledged the issues around 2PM ET and later announced that they were mostly resolved by 5:26PM ET. Instagram also confirmed the resolution at 6:02PM ET.
This outage comes after a similar one in March that affected Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, as well as a major outage in October 2022. Updates from Meta and Instagram have been added on December 11th.
