New RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra holds a BTech from IIT Kanpur and a Master's degree from Princeton University.

 

Sanjay Malhotra has been appointed as the new Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), according to an official announcement made today.

Malhotra graduated in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, in 1989, before going on to earn a Master’s degree in Public Policy from Princeton University, USA. In 1990, he cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination and became an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer with the Rajasthan cadre. Over the course of his 33-year career, he has held prominent positions in various sectors including power, finance, taxation, information technology, and mining.

IIT Kanpur
The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) is one of the Institutes of National Importance recognized by the Government of India. In the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024, IIT Kanpur ranks 4th in the engineering category, 5th overall, 7th in research, and 30th in management.

Princeton University
Founded in 1746 as the College of New Jersey and later renamed Princeton University, it is one of the oldest universities in the United States. In global university rankings, Princeton holds the 22nd spot in the QS rankings, while the Times Higher Education ranks it 4th.
