First Alert Weather Day: Moderate Snow Expected Thursday in Central Wisconsin
WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – A fast-moving storm system is set to bring light to moderate snow on Thursday, prompting a First Alert Weather Day. This will mark the largest snowfall of the season for areas south of Highway 64.
Breezy winds could lead to blowing snow, with snowfall occasionally falling heavily enough to accumulate on roads, making travel challenging. Most communities can expect totals of 4-6 inches, with some localized areas seeing even higher amounts.
The heaviest snowfall is expected between 11 AM and 5 PM, with conditions tapering off overnight. Roads should be clearer for the Friday morning commute.
Weekend Forecast: Improving Road Conditions, Chilly Temperatures, and a Mild Week Ahead
Road conditions are expected to improve by the end of the week and into the weekend. However, colder temperatures will settle in, with highs reaching the upper teens to low 20s and single-digit lows on both Saturday and Sunday mornings.
The weekend will feature less cloud cover, and travel disruptions are not anticipated. After the chilly weekend, temperatures are set to climb, becoming mild as Christmas approaches.
By the middle of next week, warmer air will return to north-central Wisconsin, reducing the likelihood of a White Christmas despite this weekend’s snowfall. While it won't reach last year’s unseasonably warm 50s, temperatures could rise into the upper 30s to low 40s by Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
