Karen Huger has been found guilty on nearly all charges following a DUI incident in Maryland in March.
In an exclusive statement to PEOPLE, Huger's attorney, A. Scott Bolden, expressed disappointment over the jury's verdict but affirmed, "We respect their decision and appreciate their time hearing our case." Bolden, a partner at Reed Smith law firm, added, "We continue to reserve Mrs. Huger’s right to an appeal and intend to fully pursue justice on her behalf. We appreciate your support and prayers for Mrs. Huger and her family at this time."
Following the March 19 incident, Huger, 61, faced charges including DUI, DWI, negligent driving, reckless driving, and various traffic violations. She was found guilty of all charges except reckless driving, according to her representative. A sentencing hearing is set for January 29.
The incident occurred when Huger was involved in a single-vehicle collision in Potomac. Law enforcement confirmed that she crossed a median and hit multiple street signs but was not injured. Authorities also reported that Huger was allegedly driving aggressively and at high speeds before the crash.
On the first day of the trial, witnesses testified about the scene. One man claimed her car smelled of alcohol, and an EMT stated that Huger appeared to sway while trying to enter an ambulance, allegedly making profane remarks. Bodycam footage also showed an officer calling Huger "hammered," a claim she denied.
Huger later explained the situation to TMZ, saying that she was grieving the loss of her parents and was emotionally distressed at the time of the crash. She recounted swerving to avoid another car and hitting a divider and tree, expressing gratitude for her survival.
The incident is a central storyline in season 9 of The Real Housewives of Potomac, airing Sundays on Bravo.
